Why we built Sanctuary Stack

Most churches run on WhatsApp groups, paper sign-in sheets and one admin's spreadsheet. We think the people doing that work deserve better tools, so we built them.

Walk into almost any church office in India on a Monday morning and you'll find the same scene. A notebook of last Sunday's attendance that nobody will total. A spreadsheet of members, three versions old. A phone with hundreds of unread messages across a dozen WhatsApp groups, and somewhere in them, the one announcement that actually mattered.

None of this is anyone's fault. Churches run on the faithfulness of a few busy people, and they use the tools that are free and familiar. But those tools were never designed for caring for a congregation, and it shows.

The questions that kept coming up

Talk to pastors and church admins and the same questions come up again and again:

  • "Who was here on Sunday, and who wasn't?" Paper sheets can't answer that by Monday.
  • "Did everyone see the change of time?" Not if it scrolled past under forty good-morning messages.
  • "Who's playing keys next week?" Usually answered at 7 AM on Sunday, by phone.
  • "Has anyone followed up with the family who visited?" Often, nobody knows.
  • "Where are the prayer requests from last month?" On slips of paper, or in someone's memory.

These aren't technology questions. They're pastoral questions. Every one of them is really asking: are we noticing our people?

What we set out to build

Sanctuary Stack is one place for a church's people, Sundays and care. Members get a simple app with your church's name on it. Leaders get a dashboard that answers those questions without anyone having to chase them.

But the way we built it matters as much as what we built. A few beliefs shaped every decision.

Calm, not noise

Church communication should help people hear what matters, not add to the noise. Announcements live in a feed members can come back to, notifications are deliberate, and nothing gets buried.

Built for Indian churches

That means working on everyday phones and slow mobile data, pricing in rupees, giving through UPI and bank transfer with no fees taken from your offerings, and no app store downloads to get stuck on. The app runs on servers in Bengaluru.

Every church gets every tool

A church of 80 deserves the same care tools as a church of 2,000. We don't lock features behind higher plans. Larger churches pay more only because they're larger. We gate scale, never tools.

WhatsApp is a companion, not an enemy

WhatsApp is where your people talk, and that's good. We don't try to replace it. We take the things that shouldn't get lost (attendance, official announcements, rotas, prayer care, giving records) and give them a proper home. When a personal message is best, one tap opens WhatsApp with the words already written.

Your church's records belong to your church

Each church's information is kept completely separate, backed up continuously, and never sold or used to train public AI. Confidential prayer requests are seen only by the pastors you choose.

Technology should serve pastoral care

Every screen we design starts with a person: the guest who visited once, the family who has quietly stopped coming, the volunteer who is about to burn out. If a feature doesn't help someone notice or care for a person, it isn't finished.

Where we're going

We're building Sanctuary Stack alongside the churches that use it. Features like the worship rota were shaped by how real worship teams plan their Sundays, and we intend to keep working that way.

If your church is still running on groups and spreadsheets, we'd love to show you what a calmer Sunday can look like. And if you just want to swap notes on how your church handles any of this, we'd love that too.

Who should see a prayer request?

Prayer requests carry some of the most personal things people share with a church. How we think about confidentiality, follow-up and making sure every request is prayed for.
